Great Apple Care Service

After a recent upgrade to a 27" iMac I7, I started having a few issues but Apple to the rescue, refreshingly good service, here's how it panned out.

I work on my iMac everyday so it is my livelihood. I had reported an issue over the phone via Apple Care some weeks back and though it resolved my issue of random shut downs whilst working. That was not the case and after another random shut down on Sunday/Monday 26th/27th June 2011 I called Apple Care back on Tuesday 28th June 2011 and they recommended I bring my mac in for a check over.

I booked a genius bar meeting the same day and had my iMac diagnosed and replacement parts ordered by the end of Tuesday. The person who served me was "Max" at the Gateshead Metro Centre Mac store. I received an email on Wednesday morning saying my parts had arrived and could I bring my iMac back in, i duly did so at 4pm expressing to "Max" how important my iMac was for work.

Amazingly it is now 9pm the same day and I have my iMac back in perfect working order and am writing this article to you, Replacement power supply, 27" display (screen burn issues) and a new logic board replaced in four hours. Truly great customer service and thank you Max, what a star!!! ;)

The iPad 2 is here

Original logo design and stationery printing from Logo Supermarket.

Welcome to the first iPad 2 review from Logo Supermarket. I wish I had my hands on one already but not long to wait now! First off lets go through the key features that are all new for the second hotly anticipated addition the the tablet market.

All-new design
No tweaks, no old frames, they really have changes the whole design of this thing. It's a whole 33% thinner than its big brother and 15% lighter on some models 1.5lbs to 1.3lbs. That is an astonishing achievement by Apple, to put it in perspective, if you have an iPhone 4 then this will be thinner that that! And it comes in two colours... black and white... from day one! The 10 hour battery life hasn't suffered either so that's impressive considering all the extras that the iPad 2 packs.

Dual-core A5 chip
We have discussed the A4 chip in previous articles and I was impressed with the punch that packed. The A5 is a monster in comparison. For starters it's dual core so twice the CPU performance. They have boosted the graphics by x9 which will be incredible. The chip also uses the same power as the A4.

Video Cameras
Rear and front facing cameras have made it to the iPad 2 so FaceTime is now possible across different utilities like iPhone 4 to iPad 2. Like the iPhone the front facing camera is VGA quality and the rear is HD so it's a great addition.

Gyroscope
The iPhone 4's gyroscope has made it into the iPad 2 enabling a whole plethora of gaming and navigation abilities.

iPad Smart Covers
This is a really cool addition and it's about time they jumped this hurdle. What's worse than buying a brand new stylish iPad and then sticking it in a clunky chunky leather case that wouldn't look out of place on granny's knee. This time round they have designed it with the cover in mind from day one. It has magnetic clips and can fold in varying ways to achieve hands-free viewing, clever and relatively cheap.

Lock button multi-function
This is a fairly simple addition but like most things a great idea. It allows you to dual programme the lock button to act as a screen orientation lock as well as a normal device lock. That means that when you are reading a book lying on the sofa and you turn to your side, instead of the orientation flipping round it stays where you want it to be, simple but clever!

There are just a few of the improvements and in a few days I will be going over the new operating system 4.3 which is coming soon.

From heavy-duty 380gsm business cards with a matt-laminated finish and a spot UV varnish to one side, to 120gsm double sided letterheads and compliment slips. All these aspect are vital when promoting a professional market-leading brand for your business. All our stationery is printed by FSC registered print houses, which is the mark of responsibly forestry.

Iran in Olympic boycott over logo design

Iran threatens Olympic boycott over logo design.

Bespoke logo design from Logo Supermarket. Here is a story that caught my eye. It's good to see the extreme views being curbed in Iran.

Iran has threatened to boycott the London 2012 Olympics unless organisers agree to change the design of the logo.
The Iranian government has lodged a formal protest with the International Olympic Committee over the four-year-old logo, claiming that it must be changed since it spells out the word 'Zion'.

And the Middle Eastern nation has warned that it will order its athletes to stay at home next summer unless the logo is replaced and its creators asked to explain themselves.

"As internet documents have proved, using the word Zion in the logo of the 2012 Olympic Games is a disgracing action and against the Olympics' valuable mottos," the Iranian government wrote in a letter to the IOC, which was released via the state-backed Iranian Students Agency.

"There is no doubt that negligence of the issue from your side may affect the presence of some countries in the Games, especially Iran which abides by commitment to the values and principles."

It's not the first time that the logo has been at the centre of an unusual complaint: it has been heavily criticised ever since first being unveiled in 2007, and has been compared to everything from a swastika to a stylised image of two people making love.

But this is the first time that the design of the logo has prompted a threat to stay away from the sporting showcase.

An IOC official confirmed that the letter had been received, but insisted that the logo "represents the figure 2012, nothing else" while a London 2012 spokesman told The Guardian that "we are surprised that this complaint has been made now".

Iran won two medals at the 2008 Olympics in China with its sole gold coming courtesy of Hadi Saei in the men's 80kg Taekwondo.

It fared better in recent Games before Beijing, claiming six in Athens in 2004 (two golds) and four in Sydney in 2000 (three golds).

Ford launch Ferrari lawsuit over F150

Ferrari will use the full name of its "Ferrari F150th Italia" Formula One car from now on after Ford Motor Co. sued the Italian automaker over the use of the abbreviation "F150."

Ferrari's F150 logo was too similar to Ford's F-150 pickup truck, the top-selling vehicle in the United States, Ford said in a complaint filed in at the US District Court in Detroit.

"Ferrari has misappropriated the F-150 trademark in naming its new racing vehicle the 'F150' in order to capitalise on and profit from the substantial goodwill that Ford has developed in the F-150 trademark," Ford said in the complaint.

Ford is asking the court to bar Ferrari from using the name and is also seeking unspecified damages, including damages of $100,000 (£62,330) under the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.

You can see the comparison of the two logos, with the Ferrari logo being on top.

Ferrari hit back saying it was "very difficult to understand Ford's viewpoint on the matter" because the car for this season's F1 world championship was given the name to celebrate 150 years of Italian unity and is not commercially available.

"Ferrari believes that its own contender in the forthcoming F1 championship cannot be confused with other types of commercially available vehicle of any sort whatsoever, nor can it give the impression that there is a link to another brand of road-going vehicle," a statement said.

"Despite this and to further prove it is acting in good faith...Ferrari has decided to ensure that in all areas of operation, the abbreviated version will be replaced at all times with the full version, Ferrari F150th Italia."

Ford's rival Fiat has an 85 per cent stake in Ferrari, and management control of Chrysler Group LLC, in which it has a 25 per cent stake.
